Shamanism: A Brief Overview
Shamanism is the most ancient spiritual/healing practice known to humankind. Many anthropologists believe that the practice dates back over 100,000 years. The word “shaman” comes from the Tungus tribe in Siberia and it means spiritual healer or one who sees in the dark. Shamanism has been practiced in Siberia, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, Greenland, and native North and South America.
A shaman is a man or woman who acts as a ‘hollow bone’ to bring healing and messages from the ‘non-ordinary’ worlds into ‘ordinary reality. They use their ability to to see “with the strong eye” or “with the heart” to travel into hidden worlds or realms. The shaman interacts directly with helping spirits to address the spiritual aspect of illness and perform soul retrievals, retrieve lost power, as well as remove spiritual blockages. The shaman also divines information for the community. Traditionally Shamans act as healers, doctors, priests and priestesses, psychotherapists, mystics, and storytellers.
After having a Soul Retrieval Session with Dawn to help my relationships, I felt whole, complete and free. I had always felt like something was holding me back and Dawn found when this happened and healed the trauma. Dawn has a wonderful manner, is very gifted and I recommend her sessions to anyone. Thank you Dawn for everything you have done for me. Gemma, Dudley
Shamans look at the spiritual form of illness which might manifest on an emotional or physical level. Its believed that whenever we suffer an emotional or physical trauma a part of our soul leaves the body in order to physically survive the experience. The shamanic definition of soul that is used is that soul is our essence or life force, the part of our vitality that keeps us alive and thriving.
The types of trauma that could cause soul loss in our culture and modern world could be any kind of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. Also being in an accident, being in a war, being a victim of a terrorist act, acting against our morals, being in a natural disaster (a fire, hurricane, earthquake, tornado, etc.), surgery, addictions, divorce, or death of a loved one, i.e. any kind of event which causes a shock to your mind or body.
What might cause soul loss in one person might not cause soul loss in another, everyone is unique. Soul loss occurs on a spectrum, e.g. for some it may been the result of overhearing an argument as a small child whilst for others it will be a physically traumatic accident.
It is important to remember that soul loss is a good thing that happens to us. It’s how we survive pain. At the point of the trauma a part of our soul essence leaves our physical body so that we don’t feel as much pain. In shamanic terms this soul part goes into the ‘non-ordinary’ reality. Sometimes it will return on its own but usually a shaman acts on behalf of the client to travel into an altered state of consciousness and retrieves it/them for them.
In traditional shamanic cultures the shaman lived on the edge of the community so someone experiencing a trauma could and see the shaman within a relatively short time to have their soul parts returned. In our ‘modern’ culture this hasn’t been possible so many of us are well into our 40’s and 50’s before seeking this kind of support! Luckily ‘western shamanism’ is on the rise and it’s now more easy to find a shamanic practioner/healer such as myself to help you.
There are many common symptoms of soul loss. Some of the more common ones would be dissociation where a person does not feel fully in his or her body and alive and fully engaged in life. Other symptoms include chronic depression, suicidal tendencies, post traumatic stress syndrome, immune deficiency problems, and grief that just does not heal. Addictions are also a sign of soul loss as we seek external sources to fill up the empty spaces inside us, whether through substances, food, relationships, work, or buying material objects.
Anytime someone says ‘I have never been the same since xxx’ and they don’t mean this in a good way, soul loss has probably occurred.
I now feel that I matter. This is quite odd for me as I have always thought that others came first. But I have discovered that I actually matter. What I think and how I feel are important and to be taken into consideration. So much so that I actually told my boss that I didn’t want to do something, so I didn’t do it!!! I find now that I speak up people react differently towards me. It is very strange but actually it feels good. Thank you so much for your help.
When you look around the World today you can see how much soul loss there is. I don’t believe there would be wars, hatred and so much consumerism if everyone had all their soul parts intact!
A soul retrieval takes approximately 2 hours to complete and the fee is £85 which also includes a full write up and a ‘check-in’ over the following four weeks.
A shaman performs many different kinds of ceremony, one of which is a Power Retrieval, or Power Animal Retrieval – the same term is often used inter-changeably.
Colleagues at work have noticed that I’m more confident and assertive. One said recently ‘I don’t know what you’re on, but I want some!’
We can lose/give away power under a range of different circumstances. At one end of the spectrum it might be over-hearing an argument and at the other it might be as a result of physical/psychological trauma. Typically it’s as result of being undermined, talked down to, bullied etc. A power retrieval re-connects you with your lost power and with your spirit animal guide and brings back empowering, supportive energy. It can also be used to heal dis-ease such as depression and other chronic illnesses and such things as chronic misfortune. It can be very helpful in overcoming blocks such as loss of confidence, belief, communicating etc.
A power retrieval takes approximately 2 hours to complete and the fee is £85 which also includes a full write up and a ‘check-in’ over the following four weeks.
Over time we can accumulate old, stuck energy into our energy body. This is often created by negative repetitive thought forms of our own or can be energy that we are inadvertently picking up from others.
A shamanic energy extraction will lift whatever is appropriate to remove at the time, which generally leaves you feeling lighter and brighter and can ease discomfort within the body.
I would absolutely recommend this! It made a huge difference to my stuck energy and things I needed to let go of.
A shamanic energy extraction takes approximately 1.5 hours and the fee is £65.
What does a shamanic healing involve?
A session lasts between 1.5-2 hours plus a 15 minute follow up during your 3-4 week integration period and is just as effective carried out at a distance as in person as we’re all connected through space and time.
At the start of the session we will discuss what area you want to focus on, I then use the native american indian drum and rattle to achieve an altered brain wave state and ‘journey’ on your behalf to other realms to retrieve your soul or power parts. During this time you may be lying on a couch or floor, or for a distant session, relaxing at home.
Following the retrieval I complete the process, which also starts your integration, with energy healing. At the end of the session I will give brief information on what was returned which also includes a short channelled message.
How much does a session cost?
Soul & Power retireval sessions are 2 hours long (occasionally longer at no extra cost) and cost £85.
Energy Extraction is 1.5 hours long and costs £65.
Does shamanic healing work at a distance?
Yes! We are all energy beings connected through all time and space and a shamanic soul or power retrieval is just as effective done at a distance as it is in person. I do many sessions this way by connecting via Skype/Facetime or Zoom before and after the session or via email.
Can I have more than one session?
Yes. Each session is conducted with a specific focus and you may wish to have a future session focused on a different area of your life.
